International Travel Grants

travel grantsThe requests for NSF support for overseas travel to attend scientific meetings/conferences are considered on the basis of three geographical regions. (i.e. SAARC, Asia- Pacific and Africa-America-Europe regions). Only resident Sri Lankan scientists and technologists are eligible to apply. Every application requires a strong recommendation from the Head of the Institute and should be linked to an on-going R&D activity.

The NSF Overseas Travel Grants scheme would not cover training programmes/ purposes or participation at workshops. Please submit Overseas Special Training Programme (OSTP) application form for such purposes.

The applications are categorized into three major groups (A, B & C) according to the age/ qualifications as follows. (also see Clause 3.1.3)

Applications for International Travel Grants
Important tips to the Applicants

  1. Applications from Group A only will be considered for such activities as, technology transfer, and participation in regional or international exhibitions under this category. The activity must have a direct bearing on the on- going research or development activity of the applicant.
  2. These applications will be considered on their own merits. (based on number of parameters identified in the Scheme of Assessment, pdf 5.6kb) However, the NSF Board of Management reserves the right to make any deviations under special circumstances.
  3. Travel for the purposes of a regular postgraduate study programme will not be supported under this scheme.
  4. Even the applicants in Group B category (above 35 years) without a research degree, but having a substantial research component and an excellent track record of ongoing research with a master degree will also be considered under the International Travel Grant Scheme.
