About the conference

The NSF intends to hold a conference on ‘Social and Cultural Nexus of Science and Technology Development (SCST)’ from 3^rd – 4^th October 2019 in Colombo. Science and Technology (S&T) development has vastly induced the development of socio- economic factors in the world. Many developed as well as developing countries have succeeded in this field and performing well in the world scenario. In fact, there is ample evidence that prove many social, psychological and cultural factors facilitate or narrow down S&T development in particular social and cultural contexts. The conference aims to bring in a corpus of multidisciplinary scholars to present their work on social and cultural aspects of science and technology development and to make sense of this complicated landscape. The outcomes of the conference will feed into the discourse on S&T development and policy analysis and programme development.

About NSF

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is a state founded institution  under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research. The NSF established in 1998 by the Science and Technology Act No 11 of 1994 is the successor to the  Natural Resources Energy & Science Authority of Sri Lanka (NARESA). NARESA was established in 1981 as the successor to the National Science Council set up in 1968. In 2018, NSF is celebrating the 50 years of dedicated service to Science and Technology in Sri Lanka.

National Science Foundation is mandated to facilitates research, development and innovation to create a knowledge economy.  It also facilitates capacity building, infrastructure development, technology transfer, knowledge creation and sharing in all fields of science & technology to improve the quality of life of the people.
