Following benefits are provided to the registered science societies
- Resource persons for scientific programmes organized by the School Science Societies.
- Funding for school science projects based on the project proposals submitted (up to maximum of Rs.10,000/=, per project ).
- Participate in workshops, seminars, field visits and World Science Day programmes (competitions and the main programme) organized by the NSF.

World Science Day – School Programme
World Science Day 2013 Schools Programme
This programme was conducted on 25 November 2013 at the New Conference Hall, BMICH, under theme “Lifestyle & Health” with a participation of more than 1000 school children, teachers, scientists & other invitees, and media personnel.
Minister of Technology and Research, Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. Mohan Lal Grero participated as the Guest of Honour.

Nanotechnology awareness
Awareness programmes for various sectors of the community such as industrialist, teachers, scientist/researches, school children, media personal and the general public are conducted
Science research projects handling through NSF. The Science Research Projects Competition (SRPC) recognizes remarkable young talent in the country while fostering individual growth for school students in Grades 9-12 who are willing to challenge themselves through science research. Through this competition, students have an opportunity to achieve national recognition for their science research projects that they complete in school. The SRPC is administered and funded by the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka (NSF) as we believe that students are the foundation of our nation’s future. Since 2007, the SRPC has provided a national platform for the country’s best and brightest young scientists to present their original research to nationally recognized professional scientists.

The NSF Publications
The NSF has started a scheme for publishing science books and booklets aiming to increase the availability of printed material in Science and Technology relevant to local needs and to encourage potential writers in science and technology.
It is also aimed to improve the quality of the publications on Science and Technology and to create an avenue for public to obtain authentic reading material on science and technology.

Women in Science Programme
A programme on ‘Women in Science’ was initiated by the National Science Foundation during the latter part of 2016. with the following objectives:
- To identify the gender vise involvement in various activities of NSF
- To collaboratively liaise with the local government institutions dealing with women’s affairs to increase the awareness and participation of women in science in various activities
- To collaboratively liaise with the international organizations in this field to increase the awareness and participation of women in science in various activities
- To come up with an NSF stand on Women in Science in Sri Lanka similar to other members of the Global Research Council
- To provide inputs to policy formulation on women in science This is in line with the ‘Statement of Principles and Actions Promoting the Equality and Status of Women in Research’ by the Global Research Council, of which NSF is the national focal point.
Some surveys on the gender-wise application and success rates of applicants of different grants schemes of NSF and the gender-wise composition of the Boards of Management of the institutes coming under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research were done by the NSF Group on Women in Science.
